Our first Kenyan coffee in a while, this is another stellar coffee from our friend Jeff at Apex Coffee. The Wakamata factory is the newest addition to the Tekangu Co-Op in Nyeri. This Co-Op has over 400 members, producing 650 bags per season. The station manager at Wakamata factory is extremely detail-oriented and experienced, contributing directly to the high cup quality in this coffee.Comprised of classic Kenyan varieties, such as the famous SL-28 and SL-34 varieties (named for the Scotts Laboratories where they were developed), this lot is everything we love about Kenyan coffee. Big, expressive acidity, backed by a deep complexity in the cup. A kind of herbal note reminds us of ginger beer, while the crystal clear sweetness has us tasting apricot and Seville orange marmalade. Velvety and sweet, the Wakamata was a regular morning coffee over the holidays, pairing excellently with opulent brunch at home.
