A bit about Buena Vista Red Catuai While we wax poetic about fruits and flowers in the expression of many specialty coffees, we also deeply enjoy the comfort and warmth of more torrefaction driven flavour profiles, such as roasted nut, chocolate, and praline. Unfortunately, these flavours are usually found as a byproduct of more darkly roasted coffee and come with bitterness, carbon, and chemical flavour.

Enter Fredy Orantes, a spectacularly quality driven producer in the lesser known growing region of Fraijanes. In addition to carefully separating varieties, Fredy is an innovator in experimenting in process we don’y often see in Guatemala.

Fredy’s black-honey process red Catuai has a deeply satisfying flavour of roasted cashew butter and chocolate while still showing vibrancy and plum-like fruit. It’s complex, comforting, and a fantastic representation of what innovation can accomplish while respecting terroir.
