    • Place the funnel in the top portion of the CHEMEX® coffeemaker, with 3 layers on the side with the spout
    • The spout acts as an air vent that allows air to escape the lower section of the brewer to let the coffee draw down at the proper rate
    • Gently pour hot water through and around the filter to rinse
    • Empty the water
    • Put coffee into the filter and then brew coffee
    • You can use our method to brew, find one of the many other methods available on the Internet (Here's a good place to start), or use your own!

Different flow properties

I purchased these after going through several boxes of the bleached filters. The first thing I noticed when folding them was how thin they were. After brewing my first batch of coffee I was surprised with how fast the coffee was filtered through these filters. Brew time was nearly cut in half and the coffee seemed much thinner. Perhaps I need a finer grind, which I will try next, but didn't expect such a different cup of coffee. I'll continue to play around with the grind and pour rate, but as of now I'll definitely be getting the bleached filters next time.

Hi Chris! We've tested this, and it did shave around 25 seconds off the brew time (4:00 vs 4:25) - we do suggest playing around with the grind and making it a bit finer until you find something you like!
