  • Consistency, consistency, consistency

We all want it, but few of us achieve it. ESPRO to the rescue! Whether you want to improve your own tamp consistency, or want consistency across a few different people/baristi, the ESPRO Calibrated tamper should be your weapon of choice.

This tamper looks and feels like a traditional espresso tamper (albeit a pretty sexy one) but it's... different. This innovative tamper consistently monitors your tamping force and signals, with a subtle click, when you reach 30 lbs.

    • The ESPRO Tamper is calibrated to 30 pounds, helping you achieve the perfect force every time
    • A gentle click that you feel rather than hear alerts you when you’ve reached the perfect force without disturbing your espresso grounds
    • Carefully calibrated in-factory for reliable performance
    • Designed to be the same size and shape as traditional tamps, with a precisely balanced base for even tamping
    • The stainless steel base and anodized aluminum handle are sturdy and reliable long-term; Minimally designed to never go out of style
    • Available in 53, 58 and 58.35 mm diameters (58.35 mm tamper designed specifically to fit VST baskets)
    • Available with a flat or convex base

Great tamper

Tamping is somewhat variable, even for someone with a lot of experience preparing shots. This tamper provides consistency, and that’s an excellent thing toward controlling the workflow in making espressos.

Perfect feeling weight

This is the perfect weight in two senses: it is a calibrated tamper, and helps me tamp with consistent weight everytime, and feels satisfyingly heavy. Light tampers are weird, in my opinion. The handle is not perfectly "smooth", as it has very small ridges. I imagine this helps with grip. If it was made with a lathe, it might also be part of that process.

If I was to give two suggestions about this tamper, I don't really like the sticker on top. Just a personal preference: it is a different texture, and looks only okay. I am also not sure how I feel about the texture of the handle, as I have liked perfectly smooth tampers in the past and never really had a problem with grip. But pretty small issues in the grand scheme of things.

Consistency

I am now using the Espro, flat head, calibrated tamper.

The handle has micro ridges around the handle which give you a secure grip and look good, too.

I used to occasionally have a spraying issue because of over-compacting the puck but this calibrated tamper gave me consistent tamps needed to overcome this.
