The Hario NEXT syphon is what all the other syphons want to be when they grow up: stylish, ergonomic, and multi-talented.

Hario has re-invented the syphon by starting from scratch with the handle design, making it more usable than ever. Not only that, it updates the aesthetic significantly, bringing the syphon into the modern age. However, it's not just aesthetics getting an update. Along with the classic cloth filter, Hario have designed an amazing metal filter that gives your coffee more body, and leaves a little sediment - akin to an Able Kone filter.

Everything you need comes in the box, apart from the alcohol to fuel the included burner. Whilst the burner that is included works, it will make getting the best out of this brew method much more challenging and frustrating (this is the same with every syphon that you can buy). We recommend that if you aren't already the proud owner of a small butane burner, then you may wish to invest in one. We carry a great little burner that gives you lots of control and more than enough consistent heat for all of your syphon needs.

What could be better than a delicious cup of coffee? We're glad you asked.

Add an open flame and apparatus that looks like it belongs in a chemistry lab that has Japanese letters on it, and that about does it for us. The syphon (or siphon, if you're so inclined) is the epitome of coffee theatre, and can produce stunning coffee. Whether you want to impress your friends or just make a delicious cup of coffee in a stylish and elaborate way, this is the piece of brewing kit for you.

The syphon consists of a metal stand that holds a glass bulb, a glass chamber with a tube on the bottom that fits into the bulb and a filter. There are several ways to use this lovely Japanese creation but whichever way you choose, the process works in the same way.

This produces an exceptionally clean and flavourful beverage and, when used properly, it's hard to beat.

I've been using this for a little over 6 months and all I can say is I am blown away by the mechanics of this fine syphon. Firstly, the glass is your standard Hario borosilicate glass, tried, tested, and resilient - and oh, it cleans easy. Next (no pun intended), the arm is very ergonomic, with enough space between it and the lower bowl that even my thick, butcher like fingers are safe from the heated bowl when handling. I think this is owed to the arms slant. The kit comes conveniently with a cloth and metal filter, both work quite well - I found myself using the metal as my daily as it cleans quite easily and doesn't leave behind any discernable metal taste in my brews. The alcohol burner and holder are simple and works, though I wish there was a handle with the burner cover so that I don't have to try tossing it to kill the flame (I have chubby fingers remember?). So... All this talk about quality and ergonomics, how's the brew you ask? It's what you'd expect from a syphon from Hario - clean, consistent brews each time - if there's one word that would best describe it, it would be 'divine'.
